For Prince and David Bowie

They were part of the soundtrack of my youth. Back in the days when MTV played music videos that I enjoyed watching. If nothing was on TV, you could turn on MTV and relax to the videos. And, Prince and David Bowie were a big part of the rotation back then. Hey, it was a 1980's. I miss that decade.

The first song I remember Prince singing was I Want To Be Your Lover. In fact, as a kid I didn't even know that was who it was at first. I didn't realize he did that song until after 1999 came out. 1999 was a great song. There was also Little Red Corvette.

Then, Prince took it up a notch with Purple Rain. My sister just had to go see that movie and she wanted me to go see it with her. Of course, I went, and I really enjoyed it too. I loved the rivalry that went on in that movie between Prince and Morris Day and The Time. Morris Day, there is a man that Prince discovered. Prince actually helped a lot of artists with their music and wrote a lot of songs too.

This little article isn't big enough to talk about all the stuff that Prince did. But, I think my favorite song came off of the Purple Rain album. It was When Doves Cry. Plus, the Purple Rain title track. Prince continued to make great music through the years, although people probably didn't hear a lot of it. Raspberry Beret, Erotic City and Kiss are three songs that come to mind.

Of note is the fact that Prince stood up for musician's and their rights to keep their music. That was when he gave up his name and referred to himself as The Artist. I wonder how many people truly understood what he was trying to stand up for? I've also come to understand that Prince really kind of knew what was going on in the world and how messed up things are, thanks to the elite. But, I'm just talking about the music here.

Speaking of Music, there was the Space Oddity himself, David Bowie. I love David Bowie's music. There was the Glam Rock era of songs like Space Oddity (Major Tom), Starman, Changes and Ziggy Stardust. The one thing about David Bowie was he evolved with his music.

There was the song that he did with Queen called Under Pressure. There was also one of my favorites of his, China Girl, which I believe was a remake that he did of the Iggy Pop song. This Is Not America, Ashes To Ashes and Let's Dance. Too many great songs to name here. Also, he starred in Labyrinth, which is a movie I really enjoyed. I have it in my collection.

I just want to acknowledge the passing of two of the most important musical artists of my youth, David Bowie and Prince. Music will never be the same without them. That's how important they were.
